George Junkin Teacher Recognition Award - Denise Thibodeaux

This teacher recognition award was created to honor teachers who have made an impact in student’s lives in the science or math fields.  In the four years she has been at Cathedral, with her enthusiastic approach, this teacher has instilled a love and appreciation for the field of science.  She has planted the seed for a love of the subject.  From watching the softball girls chase dragon flies around with nets during practice to the younger students catching beetles at football games and selling them to the highest bidder, she has rejuvenated the biological sciences at Cathedral.  With her hands-on approach, the anatomy students have developed strong stomachs because of the dissections of fetal pigs, cow eyeballs and sheep hearts.  She has attended numerous workshops including one at Cornell University to enrich her expertise in the classroom.  This year, we were fortunate to have the traveling lab from Cornell University come to Cathedral and conduct an all-day workshop explaining and giving the students a hands-on approach to the mysteries of DNA.  No doubt, because of her efforts, Cathedral graduates will continue to explore the riches this scientific field has to offer.
