Dear Cathedral Family,
I am very excited to inform you that we are completing the setup of our new MacBooks and iPads. I wanted to let each of you know our technology plan for the upcoming school year. Students in grades 9 through 12 will be receiving a MacBook enclosed in a protective case. Students in grades 6 through 8 will receive an iPad with keyboard in a protective case. Devices for grades 6 through 12 will go back and forth to school each day with your student. It will be their responsibility to ensure it is fully charged and taken care of each day. Since these are school-issued devices, students will not be allowed to decorate the protective case and device or remove the device from its case. Both devices will be in a hard shell; however, if anyone wants to purchase a protective device sleeve you may do so for extra protection.
Our preschool through 5th grade students will receive new iPads for use in their classrooms. Some of these devices may go home in the upper grades after the teachers properly train the students during the school year. We still have a lot of training that will take place throughout the school year to help us transition to a one-to-one campus. We are also pleased to inform you that not only did we receive new MacBooks and iPads, but we also were able to purchase Apple TVs. We are also beginning to upgrade the Promethean boards throughout the school.
We would like to get these devices in the students’ (grades 6th through 12th) hands before the first day of school; therefore, final registration will be different this year. We will have final registration and device pick up for 6th through 12th grades on July 27-30 in the cafeteria. During this time, parents and students will be able to sign all necessary paperwork, pay lunch fees, pick up schedules, and participate in other sign ups for the upcoming school year. At the 6th through 12th grade final registration, the student and one parent will be required to attend. If any family has multiple students in 6th through 12th grade then all students and one parent will attend at the same time. We will be asking all 6th through 12th families to sign up for a specific time slot on one of these days. If a family has a 6th through 12th grade student and an elementary student, they will be able to sign all necessary paperwork for the elementary student during their allotted time; however, no device will be sent home for elementary students. During your appointment time, we will go over the rules of our new devices, and someone will walk you and your child through accessing their device.
