Pastor's Message

Welcome to Cathedral Catholic School! As a ministry of St Mary Basilica Parish here in Natchez, we are thrilled to have you join us in our endeavor to build up the Kingdom of God on Earth by spreading the truth and love of Jesus Christ!

Bishop John J. Chanche, the first bishop of the Diocese of Natchez (now Jackson), was convinced of the necessity of offering Catholic education in Natchez. So he brought in the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul who started a day school for girls in downtown Natchez in 1847. Their work carries on today in Cathedral School, almost 175 years later!

Even though St Mary Basilica is no longer the Cathedral for the Catholic Church in Mississippi, we retain the title of “Cathedral Catholic School” to remind us of the great heritage we follow and responsibility we have in furthering the works of the Catholic Church in Mississippi. As the first and oldest Catholic school in Mississippi, our goal is to form future leaders and saints through academic, physical, and spiritual growth all centered in a love of our Savior Jesus Christ.

We give thanks to Almighty God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us and our school over the years. May He bestow such abundant blessings upon you and your family so that you may truly know of His unquenchable love.

Sincerely in Christ,

The Very Rev. Fr. Scott L. Thomas

St Mary Basilica, Pastor
