Cathedral Elementary Library

 

Hours: 7:30 a.m.-3:05 p.m. 

Class Schedules: Each class in Pre-K through 5th grade will have an assigned library period each week.  Students are also permitted to exchange books during scheduled times.

Circulation Policy: Students in grades 2 - 5 may begin checking books out in August. Kindergarten and 1st grade students begin checking books out in January.  Students are encouraged to return books promptly.  There are no fines for overdue materials.   

Students are instructed in the proper care and treatment of books. Elementary students are provided take home bags to encourage special book care. Lost or damaged books must be paid for in full. 

Accelerated Reader: Students in grades 1 - 5 participate in Accelerated Reader, a reading motivation program. This individualized program excites children about reading and improves reading proficiency. Students who earn 500 Accelerated Reader points have their names placed on the Reading Wall of Fame outside the elementary library. 

Book Fairs: Book Fairs are held each year. Book Fair proceeds help benefit both school and classroom libraries.

 

Cathedral Middle / High School Library

 

 

Hours: 7:30 a.m.-3:05 p.m. 

 

Location: Cathedral Middle School/High School Library is located in Seton Hall. 

 

Circulation: The standard checkout period for middle and high school students is two weeks.  Books are renewed as needed.  Fines for overdue books are assessed at 10¢ per school day.  Fines do not accrue over weekends or holidays.  Daily overdue notices are sent to homeroom and  English teachers for distribution to students.  Lost or damaged books must be paid for in full, and students are charged current replacement cost to replace items.  Students must be clear of fines before taking exams. 

 

Accelerated Reader: As part of their literature course requirement, students in grades 6 - 8 participate in the Accelerated Reader program, a reading motivation program.  Students who earn 1000 Accelerated Reader points have their names placed on a plaque in the Middle School Common Area.

 

Computers:  Six computers with Internet access are housed in the library and are available for student use in conducting research.  Printing costs are 5¢ per page.
